The Medal was created on 16 October 1981 to commemorate the 1300-year-long existence of the Bulgarian State. It was bestowed upon prominent figures, organizations and institutes at home and abroad.
.. Read more »r/>The Medal is made of yellow metal, having the form of a circle. Two modifications are known: breastworn for citizens, with diameter of 34 mm, and desktop for organizations and institutes, with diameter of 60 mm. The averse of the Medal is adorned with the convex effigy of the Madara Horseman and the Statue of the Republic. The reverse bears a three-lined inscription: “1300 ГОДИНИ БЪЛГАРИЯ”; underlying is a five- pointed star with laurel and an oak branches crossed.
The medal awarded to citizens has three types, which differ by the shape of the bearer:
With a pentagon bearer dressed in three-coloured ribbon, it was awarded to Bulgarian citizens;
