The Medal was established by a Decree dated 22 May 1974. It was awarded once in a lifetime to active or retired officers of the Ministry of Interior; Bulgarian or foreign citizens who had collaborated.. Read more » with the bodies of the Ministry of Interior. The Medal is made of light-yellow metal. It has the form of a circle with diameter of 34 mm. The averse of the Medal is charged with the effigy of two flying flags, the national Bulgarian flag, and a red flag, on the latter, against the background of a convex shield is featured the symbol of the Ministry of Interior: a sword, a sickle, and a hammer; to the left of the banners are three stylized wheatears, underlaid by the incription: "30 rодини MВР". The reverse ouses a convex five-pointed star and the jubilee years "1944" and "1974", surrounded by an olive branches.
The Medal was worn fixed to a pentagon bearer dressed in a ribbon of the same colours as the national flag. The Medal was mint at the State Mint, Sofia. It was cancelled in 1991.
