ORDER OF THE MADARA HORSEMAN - ISSUE REPUBLIC OF BULGARIA

Read more »ne 9, 2003, pub- lished in the “Official Gazette” No 54 of June 13, 2003, and "Law amending and supplementing the Law on Or- ders and Medals of the Republic of Bulgaria" adopted by the XXXIX National Assembly on May 20, 2004, Decree No 184 of May 20, 2004, published in "Official Gazette" additional issue 43 of May 21, 2004.
The order is conferred to foreign and Bulgarian citizens who have great merit for establishing, strengthen- ing and developing bilateral relations with Republic of Bulgaria.
The order of the Madara Horseman, issue Republic of Bulgaria has two classes - first and second and two categories - without swords (conferred to civilians) and with swords (conferred to military personnel). The order has a miniature for everyday use of diameter of 20mm.
The first class without swords depicts irregular radiant tetragon, diameter of 70mm, made of gold-plated metal, unilateral.
In the center of the tetragon embossed circle is a miniature image of the Old Bulgarian monument which dates back to the beginning of the VIII century (rock relief) The Madara Horseman is surrounded by a metal ring with 16 embossed points.
The Order is fixed to a white, 40mm wide ribbon which is edged on both sides by the three-coloured Bulgarian flag. It is suspended from the neck.
