Field Marshal Mateo de Toro Zambrano y Ureta (September 20, 1727 – February 26, 1811), was a chilean creole, Viscount of La Descubierta.. Read more » and later Count of La Conquista (1771) and Knight of the Spanish Order of Santiago. In 1810, as the Royal Governor of Chile, he called a meeting of leading citizens who would subsequently elect the governing junta, an action which is generally seen as the first step in Chilean independence process.
