This stamp was prepared for the Moscow Olympic games but not issued due to the international boycott. Most of the printed stamps were destroyed but one sheet in the possession of the then Federal Min.. Read more »ister of Posts, K. Gscheidle was missed and examples from it were inadvertently used for postage some time later. A single mint example is known, some used and several on cards or covers (price GBP circa 3,000 used).
Facsimiles of the unissued stamps were produced for a stamp exhibition in 1983, but these have their status indicated by a statement on the reverse.
