Upon the unification of the Ministry of Interior and the Committee of National Security in the beginning of 1969, the Presidium of the National Assembly issued a Decree for cancellation of the Medal for the 25th Anniversary of the Bodies of the Committee of National Security, constituted on 15 August 1968, but still unstruck. Since then, the award of the Ministry of Interior is also conferred upon the officials of the Committee of National Security. The Medal is made of yellow metal; it has the form of a circle with diameter of 33 mm.
On the averse, a convex medallion fixed against a star-like background bears the symbol of the Ministry of Interior (a sword, a sickle, and a hammer, the latter two enamelled in red) surrounded by a green-enamelled laurel wreath. The base of the sword contains within a small ellipse the enamelled national three-coloured flag with the initials: "НРБ”. Along the outer edge of the circle is inscribed: “25 ГОДИНИ ОРГАНИ НА МВР 1944 1969". The inscription and the years are delimited by three tiny five-pointed stars on both sides. On top, surmounting the sword's blade, are inscribed the initials of the project's author, "PП" (standing for Raycho Peev).
In the centre of field on the reverse is a shield housing the state coat of arms with the underlying initials "MBP"; below the shield are two laurel wreaths, surmounting is the inscription: "H. Р. БЪЛГАРИЯ".
The medal was worn on a pentagon bearer dressed in white ribbon with a red stripe in the middle, bordered in green on both sides .
The Medal was mint at the State Mint, Sofia. The Medal was cancelled in 1991.
